2. Art’s Spectacle: Shrewsbury Arts Trail
Shrewsbury made a name for itself in the art world in 2021 with the debut of the Shrewsbury Arts Trail. Entry is free for all, and its popularity has been steadily growing each year. Highlights from the previous year included three sculptures by Salvador Dalí. Two of these captivating sculptures were showcased outdoors for everyone to enjoy. One, the Surrealist Piano [pictured], stood prominently in front of Shrewsbury Castle, while another, named Homage to Terpsichore, graced the courtyard of the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery. The trail also featured notable works by other renowned British artists such as Barbara Hepworth, Damien Hirst, and Banksy.

2024  saw the ‘Sculpture Trail’ spotlight female British sculptors, Halima Cassell MBE, Almuth Tebbenhoff, Vice President of the Royal Society of Sculptors, and Alice Irwin. Sculptures were displayed at St. Mary’s Church and Shrewsbury Castle, The Dingle in the Quarry Park and Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery for all to see.

The trial begins in June and runs to August each year. More information about the art and cultural trail can be found on the dedicated website: Home | Shrewsbury Arts Trail
