Course Components

The components which make your personal language programme right for you

You can select one or more of the following modules to create a tailor-made course that is appropriate to your learning objectives. Find out about the detail behind each component to help identify the course that is right for you.

  General language development

(20 lessons per week included in all courses. Max. class size 8 in July/August; max. 6 at all other times of year)

All courses include the general language development component to give the essential skills for effective communication. Additional components allow you to adapt the course to your individual needs.

Part A – 10 lessons progressive language development & practice to give structure and direction to the whole process of your learning

Part B – 10 lessons ‘active communication skills’ – lessons which focus on the individual skills of communication – listening, speaking, reading and writing – to ensure rapid progress in your ability to understand and use English in real situations.

 Intensive grammar practice & development

(5 lessons per week. Maximum class size 6, average 4-5 at all times of year)

Grammar development at the level appropriate to your needs is included in the general language development component described above. If you have particular weaknesses or needs which demand remedial assistance or greater structural confidence, this module will suit you perfectly.

 Individual (1-to-1) tuition

(5 lessons per week included in courses G3, G4, and all executive courses)
Can be dedicated to particular skills, vocabulary, or special projects; and to deal with any difficulties which arise during the course. In liaison with tutors, you determine the style and content of the lessons.

 Examination options

5 lessons per week in small classes (maximum 6) can be added to most of our courses to concentrate on the skills needed to pass the examination of your choice.

 

 Business Module 1 – ‘ESSENTIAL BUSINESS FUNCTIONS’

(10 lessons per week included in all business & executive courses except E1; Max. class size 6, av. 3-4 at all times of year)

  • Reading business texts

  Business Module 2 – ‘SKILLS & DEPARTMENTAL FUNCTIONS’

DEPARTMENTAL FUNCTIONS’
(5 lessons per week included in business & executive courses B3, E1 & E4; Max. class size 6, av. 2-3 at all times of year)

Please note that a higher level of English is required for this module, so the courses which include it are limited to English levels of Intermediate and above.

Teacher-guided self-access & computer-assisted learning

(included in all courses – 5 lessons per week on general courses; 2 lessons per week on business & executive courses)

The opportunity to use learning materials of your own choice, with constant access to our teachers for help, advice, and individual guidance.

(NOTE:- During the 2 lessons included in all business & executive courses, a 15-minute individual tutorial to review course content and progress is also included each week)

Other inclusions
  • Level test, teaching materials, library access, intra-course progress reviews & informal report on progress (included in all courses)
  • Internet & e-mail access, social programme (minimum 2 evenings/WK), end-of-course certificate (included in all courses)
  • Pre-course Needs Analysis and detailed advice on course selection (included in all business & executive courses)
  • Post-course formal report on progress and functional level, with advice for ongoing language development (included in all business & executive courses)
  • Social programme (minimum 2 evenings per week in the company of teachers). Examples of evenings include a cinema visit, town tour, live music events and drinks in the pub.
