Junior Residential Accommodation

Severnvale’s junior summer programme is based at Shrewsbury School which offers residential accommodation within the school’s boarding houses. The residential team is on hand throughout your stay to offer support and advice, to help you settle in and feel at home. You can look forward to a warm welcome from our team.

What to expect from our residential stay:
  • Friendly and enthusiastic team members, whose priority is your enjoyment and safety.
  • Daily meals included: Breakfast, packed lunch (Monday-Saturday), Sunday lunch and evening meals.
  • Allergy and dietary requirements/specific requests are met where possible.
  • Access to a desk in all rooms.
  • Weekly laundry included.
  • Weekly fresh bed linen change service.
  • Access to TV rooms, social space and games for fun evenings after a days studying.
  • Access to the school’s extensive sports complex during the activity programme, which offers space for plenty of activities.
  • Accommodation is guaranteed to be appropriate for the students’ needs, clean and of a high standard.
  • Having a single, double, or shared room (with students of a different nationality where requested)
  • All our residential team are native-level English speakers.

MEALS & CATERING – RESIDENTIAL Accommodation

Meals for residential students are taken in the purpose-built catering hall, Kingsland Hall (‘KH’), where pupils choose from a wide variety of foods from self-service counters. All of our food is cooked from scratch, using fresh ingredients and local suppliers wherever possible.

We happily cater for guests with special dietary needs such as dairy/lactose intolerance, gluten-free diets and halal food. There are also BBQ evenings at various points during the course and packed lunches are supplied Monday-Saturday.

Key Residential Welfare Aspects

Severnvale always adheres to a strict policy of staff to student ratios whilst in the residential building, on activities and excursions. All our support staff are trained and vetted to work with young learners.

A qualified first aider is always present in the residential building, during lessons and activities, and on excursions.

In the event that any student requires help or assistance at any time, residential staff are on site 24/7, and there is also a 24/7 emergency helpline that is monitored by the Academy senior management team throughout the duration of the course.

The Academy has clear ‘Going Out Rules’ for students (which is shared with parents and students and monitored by the residential team): no leaving the site unsupervised in the evenings, all students in residence by 9:30pm, free time in town on Sundays.

Junior Homestay

Severnvale has a dedicated Accommodation and Welfare Officer who has undergone Child Safeguarding training and personally recruits and regularly visits our host families. We take the welfare of the students that visit us very seriously and have rigorous recruitment processes in place, including undergoing police’s check in line with British Council guidelines. There is a continuous and open communication with our host families and Severnvale staff.

What to expect from homestay hosts:
  • All our hosts are native-level English speakers.
  • Daily meals included: Breakfast, packed lunch (Monday-Saturday), Sunday lunch and evening meals.
  • Allergy and dietary requirements/specific requests are met where possible.
  • Access to a desk/study area.
  • Weekly laundry included.
  • A trustworthy and reliable community of hosts, from across Shrewsbury, many of whom have been hosting with Severnvale Academy for a number of years.
  • Accommodation is guaranteed to be appropriate for the students’ needs, clean and of a high standard.
  • Students receive information about the home and family before arrival.
  • Having a single or shared room (with student of a different nationality)
  • Upon your arrival in Shrewsbury, your host will be there to greet you, share instructions on getting to school, and ensure a warm welcome when you return home.

Key Homestay Welfare Aspects

Severnvale always adheres to a strict policy of staff to student ratios during lessons and on excursions. All our support staff are trained and vetted to work with young learners.

Severnvale will provide a private shuttle bus that will pick up the students at the beginning of the day and drop the students back near to their host families at the end of the day ensuring that no student needs to use public transport or walk long distances.

In the event that any student or host requires help or assistance at any time, there is a 24/7 emergency helpline that is monitored by the Academy senior management team throughout the duration of the course.

The Academy has clear ‘Going Out Rules’ for students’ free time, which is shared with parents, students and hosts.

Airport transfers

Prices are one way from/to the airport, but they can be shared by students who book their courses together.
Please note that for students under 16, £45 must be added to the transfer price to cover the driver waiting costs – by law the driver must stay at the airport until the plane has taken off.
